DELHI POLICE CRACKS DOWN ON PIRACY/COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS.
Regular
inputs were received that some shopkeepers are indulging in selling of soft
copies of Bollywood movies before release and blue films and obscene MMS. Owing
to recent leakages of latest movies such as Great Grand Masti, Udta Punjab
etc, and on inputs provided by the production home Balalji Telefilms, raids
were conducted all over Delhi by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police to crackdown
on such illegal activities. Sources were deployed and decoy customers were sent
in different parts of Delhi to develop the information.
In these raids, 6 cases were
registered, 9 accused arrested and huge incriminating material recovered/seized
including 355 DVDs and 8 computers/laptops.
I.
During
the raids in Lajpat Rai Market, Chandni Chowk, 2 traders were found to be
indulging in selling such movies through pen drives. Incriminating material was
seized and 2 cases have been registered.
One
Karan Kumar @ Akku who is running shop No. 848, Lajpat Rai Market in the name
& style of Babbu Electronics agreed to provide soft copy of Bollywood movie
‘Great Grand Masti’ which will be released on 22.07.2016 and blue films
& obscene MMSs in pen drive at the cost of 50 rupees each to the police
official sent as decoy customer by the Crime Branch team. Subsequently, he was
apprehended by the team already deployed in plain clothes on pre-decided signal
received from him and pirated versions of several Bollywood movies viz.
Raman Raghav, Teen, Junooniat, Udta Punjab, Sarabjit, Houseful-3 and Veerappan
etc. released recently were found stored in his laptop apart from more than 500
Bollywood, Hollywood and South-Indian movies. Accordingly, a case was
registered at PS Crime Branch and accused was arrested. The laptop containing
leaked movie ‘Great Grand Masti’, other pirated Bollywood movies and
blue films/obscene MMSs was also seized in the case.
FIR
No.113/16 dated 06.07.2016 u/s 292 IPC and 63 Copy Right Act PS Crime Branch
has been registered against Karan s/o Mohan Lal r/o B-307/A, Street No.6, Ashok
Nagar, Shahdara, Shop No.848, Old Lajpat Rai Market, Delhi who is having a
business of mobile accessories and laptops, and 1 Dell laptop containing
unreleased movies and pornographic films was recovered.
The
accused Karan Kumar @ Akku belongs to a middle class family residing in Ashok
Nagar, Shahdara area. His father is a retired clerk from Union Bank of India.
After completing his studies at 10+2 level in the year 2010, he took a shop in
Lajpat Rai market at Rs. 12,000/- per month and started business of selling
mobile phone accessories. In the year 2012, he started selling pirated versions
of Bollywood movies and blue films etc. at the cost of Rs. 10/- to 50/- in
order to enhance his daily income after downloading the same from specific
website links. He used to earn Rs. 8-10,000/- monthly from this dubious trade.
Earlier also, he had sold Bollywood movie ‘Udta Punjab’ to several persons
before its official release.
II.
In
another raid at the same time, a team of Crime Branch apprehended the accused
Vishal @ Pappi from his shop No. 679, Old Lajpat Rai Market while he sold the
soft copy of unreleased Bollywood movie ‘Great Grand Masti’ and blue films/MMSs
to the decoy customer of Crime Branch @ Rs. 50/- each. Accordingly, another
case was registered at PS Crime Branch and the accused was arrested in the
case. The laptop containing leaked movie ‘Great Grand Masti’, other recently
released pirated Bollywood movies and blue films/obscene MMSs recovered from
the possession of the accused was also seized in the case.
FIR
No.112/16 dated 06.07.2016 u/s 292 IPC and 63 Copy Right Act PS Crime Branch
has been registered against (i) Vishal @ Pappi s/o Subhash Chand r/o 2720, Nai
Sarak, Delhi, Shop: MCD Counter No.679, Old Lajpat Rai Market, Delhi, who is
running a business of phone accessories and 1 laptop containing unreleased
movies and pornographic material recovered.
The
accused Vishal @ Pappi belongs to a lower middle class family residing in Nai
Sadak area. His father is running a milk dairy in the locality. After
completing his studies upto high school in the year 2006, the accused Vishal @
Pappi started assisting in his family business. In the year 2012, he took an MCD
Counter situated at shop No.679, Old Lajpat Rai Market @ Rs. 5,000/- per month
and started selling soft copies of pirated Bollywood, Hollywood and
South-Indian movies and blue films at the cost of Rs. 10/- to 50/- after
getting the same from other racketeers. He used to earn Rs. 12-15,000/- per
month through this dubious trade.
III.
In
the third raid, another team of Crime Branch apprehended the accused (i) Amit
Gupta (30 yrs) s/o Hari Shankar Prasad r/o H. No. 1732, Gurudwara road, Kotla Mubarakpur,
Delhi, (ii) Vikram Kumar (25 yrs) s/o Uday Prasad r/o H.No. 1734, IInd Floor,
Sher Singh Bazar, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi and (iii) Devender Basoya (30
yrs) s/o Resh Kumar r/o H. No. 173, Aliganj, near Chhoti Chaupal, Kotla
Mubarakpur, Delhi and one desktop computer, one laptop and one laptop and one
desktop computer containing leaked movie “Great Grand Masti” have been
recovered from them respectively. Apart from this, 11 pirated DVDs of movie “Great
Grand Masti” have also been seized from their possession.
FIR No.114/16 u/s 63 Copyright Act,
1957 r/w Section 34 IPS, PS Crime Branch has been registered against Amit Gupta,
Vikram Kumar and Devender Basoya and they have been arrested in the case.
Amit
Gupta belongs to a middle class family and resides at Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi
with his family. He has studied upto 10th standard and runs a music &
movies CD/DVD shop in Netram Market, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi. He was selling
pirated movie CDs/DVDs at his shop.
Vikram
belongs to a middle class family and resides at Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi with
his family. He has studied upto 12th standard and runs a music & movies
CD/DVD shop in Sher Singh Bazaar, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi. He was selling
pirated movie CDs/DVDs at his shop.
Devender Basoya belongs to a middle
class family and resides at Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi with his family. He has
studied upto 10th standard and runs a music & movies CD/DVD shop at Maan
Singh Sangathan, Sewa Nagar Market, Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi. He was selling
pirated movie CDs/DVDs at his shop.
IV.
In
the fourth raid, another team of Crime Branch apprehended the accused Ghanshyam
Kumar (43 yrs) s/o Suraj r/o D-944, JJ Colony; Shop No.6, Main Market, Malviya
Nagar, Delhi while he was found selling pirated DVDs of un-released movie “Great
Grand Masti”. 330 pirated DVDs of un-released movie “Great Grand Masti”
were seized from his shop No.6, Main Market, Malviya Nagar. Accordingly,
another case FIR No.115/16 u/s 63 Copyright Act, 1957 has been registered
against him.
Ghanshyam
belongs to a lower middle class and resides at Tigri, Delhi with his family. He
has studied upto 8th standard and runs a music & movies CD/DVD
shop in Main Market, Malviya Nagar, Delhi. He was found selling pirated DVDs of
un-released movie “Great Grand Masti” at his shop.
V.
In
the fifth raid, another team of Crime Branch apprehended (i) Nafeesh Ahmed (28
yrs) s/o Intezar Hussain r/o H.No. RZ 197, Gali No. 15, Tughlakabad Extn.,
Delhi and (ii) Deepak (19 yrs) s/o Sakaram r/o H.No. A-292, Transit Camp,
Govind Puri, Delhi and one computer, one mobile phone and 14 pirated DVDs of
movie “Great Grand Masti” from them. A case FIR No. 116/16 u/s 63
Copyright Act, 1957 has been registered against them.
Nafeesh
Ahmed belongs to lower middle class and resides at Tughlakabad Extn., Delhi
with his family. He did not attend school and sells music & movies CDs/DVDs
in Tughlakabad Extn., Delhi. He was selling pirated movie CDs/DVDs.
Deepak
belongs to lower middle class and resides at Transit Camp, Govindpuri, Delhi
with his family. He has studied upto 12th standard and is a road
side vendor of music & movies CDs/DVDs in Kalkaji Market, Delhi. He was
selling pirated movie CDs/DVDs.
VI.
In
the sixth raid, one desktop computer containing pirated copy of the movie Great
Grand Masti alongwith obscene material has been seized from the house-cum-shop
of Rahul @ Ravi s/o Nathi Ram r/o B-302, Old Seempuri, Delhi. A case FIR
No.117/16 dated 07.07.2016 u/s 292 IPC & 63 Copy Right Act, 1957 PS Crime
Branch has been registered in this matter.
Accused Rahul @ Ravi runs a mobile
recharge shop in the area of B-Block, Old Seemapuri, Delhi, who agreed to
provide a soft copy of the Bollywood movie “Great Grand Masti” alongwith
obscene material in a pendrive for consideration of Rs.50/- to the police
official sent as decoy customer by the Crime Branch team. Subsequently, he was
apprehended by the team already deployed in plain clothes on pre-decided signal
from him and pirated versions of Bollywood movie “Great Grand Masti” released
recently alongwith obscene material were found stored in his desktop computer.
Accordingly, a case was registered at PS Crime Branch and accused have been
arrested.
