OPPOSITION WALKS OUT AGAINST GOVERNMENT’S PROMOTION OF LIQUOR BY GIVING 146 NEW RETAIL LICENSE IN ITS TENURE
Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta alongwith MLA Jagdish Pradhan today walked out of the Assembly in protest against Governments policy of promoting the liquor whereas pretending to control it. He said that as per figures provided by Deputy Chief Minister, Manish Sisodia himself in the House when the Government came to power in 2014-15, the number of retail license was 1532. It rose to record high upto 1674 by 10th August 2016 recording increase of 146 licenses. The Government spends multi crore on general advertisement but it has only 7.76 crores for creating awareness against drinking
Government’s recent announcement not issuing new licenses is out of compulsion as it wants to present anti liquor image. However it is grossly fallacious. The real intention of the Government is reflected in the public notice prepared by the Government for setting up of Microbrewery at all hotels, restaurants and airports in Delhi for 2015-16 onwards. It envisaged night life, relaxation of drinking age and opening of microbreweries through out the city. However DDA rejected the proposals and hence Delhi was saved of drinking disaster by AAP Government.
The figures provided by Deputy CM today in the House indicate drastic increase in grant of license during the tenure of present Government.
