A Gang of Interstate Cheats Busted : 3 Accused Arrested

A team of PS Defence Colony, South District has arrested three cheats namely Amit Jajorias/o Trilok Chand r/o GH-14/393, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi, Sandeep Sharma s/o Jyoti Prasad Sharma r/o RZ-E 77, Nihal Vihar, New Delhi and Bhanu Pandey s/o Bachraj Pandey r/o D-299, Krishi Kunj, Inderpuri, New Delhi who were indulged in duping innocent persons by making fake calls, posing as tele-callers from banks and fraudulently shop online by using their credit card details.

Brief facts :

It was reported by the representative of E-Commerce Company that some persons are booking online mobile phones by using details of credit cards / debit cards, obtained fraudulently and thereby spoiling goodwill of the company and causing monetary loss to the innocent persons.  Meanwhile, information was received that by adopting the same modus operandi, same persons have ordered for delivery of I-Phone 6 from the Main Market, Defence Colony.  On receiving this information, a team was formed under the supervision of Inspr. Kuldeep Singh, SHO/Defence Colony comprising SI Shiv Dev Singh, HC Kishore, Ct. Sunil, Ct. Ali and Ct. Sushil and a trap was laid in the market. The alert team members caught three accused persons while they were taking delivery of I-Phone 6 (64 GB) on a fake ID.  Their two associates namely Deepak Sharma and Pankaj Mehra managed to flee from the spot. During enquiry, it was revealed that the I-Phone had been booked through the complainant’s E-Commerce Portal and payment was made by using the Credit Card of a person employed in a IT Company.  The details of Credit Card were obtained by the accused persons, masquerading as tele-caller.  Further investigation is in progress to arrest co-accused persons and to link the recovered cheated property.  Cases of cheating relating to Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad are likely to be solved. 

The modus operandi of the gang is that they masquerade as bank officials and call the bank customers of distant states like Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, etc. and procure their bank details and passwords of credit / debit cards on one or the other pretext.  Since they are fluent in English, victims do not doubt on the credibility of genuine bank officials.  They inform the victim to share his confidential bank information including One Time Password (OTP) on the pretext that an online transaction was made from their credit card.  They ask for their credit card details so that their credit card could be blocked.  As soon as they procure credit card details of victim, they would place online order for expensive articles, preferably electronic items.  Thereafter, they will take delivery of these articles by creating fake identities.  They used to target bank customers of distant states so that complaints filed against them are delayed being related to distant states.  Accused Bhanu Pandey used to procure all the data / details of persons from his Call Centre office in Naraina Vihar as he works there as tele-caller.

3.   One Nokia Mobile Phone

4.   One Samsung Galaxy (Tab 3).

5.   One fake identity card.

6.   Some incriminatory articles.

  

Profile of accused persons :

1.         Amit Jajoria (age 26 years) s/o Trilok Chand R/o GH-14/393, Paschim Vihar, New Delhi is unmarried.  He has done B-Tech (Mechanical Engineering) from a prestigious university.  Earlier, he was running IT Company in Rohini and had to bear losses.  Later, he started working in Call Centre in Delhi.

2.         Sandeep Sharma (age 27 years) s/o Jyoti Prasad Sharma R/o RZ-E 77, Nihal Vihar, New Delhi is unmarried.  He is graduate.  He works as Career Counsel in a prestigious Engineering College. 

3.         Bhanu Pandey (age 25 years) s/o Bachraj Pandey r/o D-299, Krishi Kunj, Inderpuri, New Delhi is unmarried.  He has studied up to 12^th class and works in Call Centre in Delhi.
