Underworld Bid in Delhi/NCR and Mumbai Thwarted By a Timely Preemptive Strike by Crime Branch
A
team of officers of Crime Branch led by ACP KPS Malhotra and consisting of
Insp. S.S. Sandhu, SI Neeraj Kumar, Vijay, ASI Jai Parkash, HCs Resham Singh,
Vijender Singh, Cts Sandeep, Vinod, Hari Krishan, Sushil and Sandeep under the
supervision of DCP Bhisham Singh and overall supervision of Addl.CP Ashok Chand
have busted a pan India network of the Mumbai underworld, don, Ejaz Lakdawala.
The main handler of the network for northern India was based in Western UP
while the sharp shooters were sourced from Punjab, and he has been arrested
from Delhi. One pistol and two live cartridges have been recovered from his
possession.
Information was received from
reliable sources that Ejaz Lakadawala, an underworld don of Mumbai, was trying
to extend his tentacles to Northern India.
This information was further developed and it was ascertained that his
handler was based in Western UP. On
18/03/2015, specific information was received that the handler would come to
Mukarba Chowk, Delhi to meet his associate.
On this information, a trap was laid and the handler was arrested. He was identified as Mohd. Yousuf @ Mian
(aged 30 yrs) s/o Shafiq Ahmad r/o Bareilly, UP. A pistol alongwith cartridges
were recovered from his possession. A case under appropriate sections of law
was registered at PS Crime Branch.
Mohd Yousuf @ Mian was subjected to
intensive interrogation. It was revealed that he began his criminal career in
the year 2005 as a drug trafficker and a gun runner. In this trade, he came in
contact with criminal elements of Punjab engaged in the same activity.
Meanwhile, in the year 2014, he came in
contact with Ejaz Lakdawala’s henchmen in Mumbai. Through them, he came in
contact with Ejaz Lakdawala who is probably at present somewhere in North
America though he keeps shifting bases. He remained in contact with Ejaz Lakdawala
through Voice over Internet Protocol Calling (VOIP) and several international
numbers of different countries spread over nearly all continents. The
Underworld Don initially tasked him to arrange for sharp shooters. Since, Mohd
Yousuf was in close contact with criminal elements in Punjab, he roped in Sonu
@ Rajender r/o Jalandhar, Punjab, an active and desperate criminal for carrying
out the tasks that would be assigned to him. Sonu has eight criminal
involvements in Punjab pertaining to drug trafficking, robbery and extortion.
In
2014, Ejaz Lakdawala tasked Mohd Yousuf to arrange for sharpshooters to go to
Mumbai and target the owners of a very famous sweet shop in Mumbai. Sonu @
Rajender alongwith his associates Swarn @ Kalu and Binder both r/o Jalandhar,
Punjab proceeded to Mumbai. There, they were met by an associate of Ejaz
Lakdawala. The associate also provided them with weapons. The associate men in
a vehicle took the sharp shooters to Borivali, Mumbai, but when they attempted
to shoot, their weapon misfired and they fled from the scene.
It would not be out of place to mention that
in the year 2003, two sharp shooters of Ejaz Lakdawala, Sanjay Gautam and
Sanjay Thakur were shot in a shootout with Mumbai Police and it was revealed
during that time that these sharp shooters of Ejaz Lakdawala had come to target
the owners of the same popular sweet shop in Mumbai.
Subsequently, Ejaz Lakdawala tasked Mohd.
Yousuf for targeting a top builder of Borivali, Mumbai. Sonu @ Rajender
alongwith his associate Mandeep r/o Jalandhar, Punjab proceeded to Mumbai.
Mandeep has three criminal involvements pertaining to robbery and drug
trafficking. However, they were unable to execute the task because in spite of
repeated visits to the area, they could not get a clear opportunity to target
the builder. Since they feared getting spotted, they returned back to Punjab to
return again.
Ejaz Lakdawala later tasked Mohd. Yousuf @
Mian for targeting a industrialist having his residence in Delhi and his
factory in NCR region. Sonu @ Rajender
alongwith his associate Nikka r/o Jalandhar, Punjab recceed the residence and
the factory of the businessman. Nikka is involved in a case of Attempt to
murder of Jalandhar, Punjab. They were waiting for instructions to act, but
meanwhile Sonu @ Rajender was arrested by the Punjab Police in a case of drug
trafficking and presently lodged in Kapurthala jail, Punjab. Due to the arrest of the main shooter, the
tasks that were assigned were put on hold.
Ejaz Lakdawala, the underworld don was earlier
associate of Dawood Ibrahim. However, later on he became a close associate of
Chota Rajan. Subsequently, he also parted ways with Chota Rajan and set up his
own underworld network. He basically targeted the Bollywood film industry and
other businessman for extortion.
Presently, he is supposed to be somewhere in North America, although he
frequently changes his locations to South East Asia as well.
Mohd. Yousuf @ Mian s/o Safiq Ahmad is a
school dropout. His brother is also engaged in drug trafficking. He also became
involved in drug trafficking and also started supplying drug and illicit arms
to the criminal elements in Punjab.
