Smt. Barkha Shukla Singh issued the following statement today

"It it extremely appalling to witness the levels the Aam Aadmi Party has stooped to, from using 97 crores of public money to promote their electoral prospects in other states to now using crores of public money to defend Mr Arvind Kejriwal and his colleagues in their personal political cases, it has become clear that the Aam Aadmi Party leaders led by Mr Kejriwal are using the august offices of the Govt of NCT of Delhi to promote personal agendas.

It is made clear from the documents available in public domain that Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani appearing on behalf of Mr Arvind Kejriwal and others in the defamation case filed against him by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, had raised a bill of Rs. 1 Crore as Retainer and Rs. 22 Lakhs Per Appearance in the said case. The same was sent to the Secretary to the Chief Minister of Delhi. In order for the same to paid through the tax payers money in the coffers of the Govt of NCT of Delhi and also and more importantly to subvert the due process of the law, the same bill was moved in the file noting done by Deputy CM Manish Sisodia himself that states that the same may not be put before the Hon'ble LG and be cleared in one day preferably.

There have been 11 appearances of Senior Advocate Ram Jethmalani in the said case which amounts to almost Rs. 3.5 Crores of public money being spent the personal cases of Mr Arvind Kejriwal and company. I demand that an inquiry be set up to investigate the exact amount of public money illegally spent on such cases and the same be recovered from the Aam Aadmi Party leaders.

Also, the plea taken by the Aam Aadmi Party of the said cases being filed in official capacity of the Chief Minister of Delhi is completely wrong, untenable and unmaintainable as Law under section - 81 of the Civil Procedure Code requires of the concerned official to declare that the said case is in official capacity, which, in this case was not done by the AAP leaders.

In the past also, it is never been so that any incumbent who may have personally made liable for defamation or any other case, has made the government foot the bill of the same.

The said actions of the AAP are not only highly condemnable but also illegal and attract civil and criminal action."
