AIIMS Cancer Chief G.K. Rath : Felicitated & Honored

Ban Film Stars from Promoting & Advertising Tobacco : Jolly




New Delhi, 16th April 2017: AIIMS Cancer Chief Prof. G.K. Rath stated that consumption of tobacco & environmental pollution were the cause of cancer. Nearly 6,00,000 people die in India due to tobacco related diseases. In year 2016 there were 1,50,000 breast cancer cases among females while 1,40,000 were lung cancer cases in India revealed Prof. Dr. Rath.

Prominent socio- political- cultural NGO, Delhi Study Group led by Ex. Delhi MLA & President Vijay Jolly felicitated & honored Prof. G.K. Rath, Cancer Chief AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for pioneer research in curing cancer in India. Prof. G.K. Rath was honored with a shawl, citation & trophy by Delhi Study Group at a crowded program at Constitution Club, New Delhi. The Convener of the program Prof. Ashok Sharma is research scholar AIIMS & Secretary Delhi Study Group.    

Currently Head National Cancer Institute, AIIMS, Jhajjar Haryana & Professor Radiation Oncology, AIIMS, New Delhi while delivering the keynote address claimed that today 80% cancer is curable.

Video presentation by Prof. Rath revealed that Aizawl region in North East reported 207.7 and in Delhi 144.8 cancer cases  among females. While the figure among males stood at 230.4 in Aizawl and in Delhi at 149.4 per one lakh population. This was due to excessive consumption of meat & pollution.  

Prof. G.K. Rath gave a video & audio presentation on cancer attended by eminent doctors, lawyers, student leaders, diplomats, ex-army men, scientists, educationists & medical research scholars etc. Total reported cancer patients in India were 6,92,704 in 2015 and the projected figure for year 2020 is estimated at 8,71,756 in India.

Early detection enables to save the patients from cancer diseases. The sure cancer death trap is a thing of the past. Good & healthy living, maintaining hygiene, reducing weight, increased physical exercises, daily consumption of fruits & vegetables, limited exposure to sun, avoiding chewing tobacco and limited alcohol can prevent cancer. Prostate cancer, breast cancer, thyroid cancer & testis cancer is 100% curable. Cancer in India is treated thru surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and immune therapy stated Prof. Rath. 

Delhi Study Group President Vijay Jolly in his welcome address demanded that Indian Cine Stars be banned from promoting & advertising tobacco & cigarettes because they are easily adhered by youngsters. Jolly stated that people of Sikh religion do not have oral cancer since they do not chew paan, gutka or tobacco in their daily lives. We all need to emulate Sikh discipline & way of life to avoid cancer stated Mr. Jolly. Indian Film Star Suujoy J. Mukherji (son of golden Jubliee Hero Joy Mukherji) and Advisor Ashok Garg graced the occasion. Program was compared by Bhupendra Kansil & vote of thanks was proposed by Vandana Pathak, Secretary DSG.
