INCIDENT AND
OPERATION:-
An information was
received that a huge haul of illicit liquor was being transported from Ludhiana
to Maharashtra via Delhi in a truck. On this information, a team of above said officials
laid a trap near Pragati Power Station and flagged down a truck bearing No.
UP-83AT-2115. The driver of truck whose name was revealed as Kaptan Singh above
was asked about the goods in the trucks. He replied that there was ‘chemical
drums in a wooden box’ in the truck, which were to be delivered at Shirdi, Maharashtra.
As a proof of the same he had also shown the papers showing the goods as
chemical drums packed in wooden box. The truck was checked after removing the tirpal
and it was found containing large wooden box. The wooden box was broke open and
one more steal container was found inside the wooden box. The same was also
opened and it was found containing 505 cartons of premium brand of illicit
liquors like Officers Choice, Magic Moment, Imperial Blue, Royal Stag,
McDowell's No.1 etc. recovered.
INTERROGATION:-
During interrogation, it was revealed that both the
accused persons are drivers and they are working for a Ludhiana based liquor
supplier namely Sunny. Because of ban on
liquor in Gujarat, margin of profit is much higher in supply of liquor in Gujarat.
So he used to supply illicit liquor from Punjab to Gujarat via Delhi and
Maharashtra. For this purpose, he has modified the truck by putting a steel
container in the truck and then covering the same with ply boards making it
look like wooden box. He would describe the goods as chemical drums in wooden
box and no one can doubt the description until the wooden frame of steel
container is broke open. The liquor would be unloaded at a godown in Akkalkuwa,
Maharashtra, just near the Gujarat Border. From Akkalkuwa the same would be
smuggled to Gujarat. Sunny would pay accused persons Rs. 15,000/- per trip.
Accused persons have
been arrested under appropriate sections of law. Search of remaining accused persons is being conducted.
Investigation of the case is in progress.
