1705 KG of Red Sandal Wood Seized One Arrested

With the arrest of one transport agent, namely Sanjay Kumar Nirwan (Age 48 years) r/o Pitampura Delhi, the team of Central District police has recovered 1705 kg of banned red Sandal wood/khair.

An information was received at AATS/Central District, Delhi regarding transportation of some wooden articles via Thomson Road, New Delhi Railway Station. On this, a team comprising of Insp. Praveen Kumar, I/C AATS, ASI Gajender Singh, HC Ramesh, Ct Ajay and Ct Dharam Pal was constituted under the close supervision of Sh. Har Mohan Chauhan, ACP Operations. The team started checking by putting barricades at Thomson Road in front of exit gate, New Delhi Railway Station.    On suspicion, four rickshaw rehris, loaded with some logs and goods wrapped in jute sheets and plastic bags were stopped. The police team was suspicious of the logs being sandal wood. Immediately, the officials of Forest Department were informed who arrived at the spot and identified the wood to be red sandal wood / khair, which is a banned article in India. On checking 1705 kg of red sandal wood / khair was seized.  One Sanjay Kumar Nirwan, a goods transport agent, who was in possession of the goods, was arrested by the police team. 

Immediately, a case vide FIR no. 495/15 dated 25.11.2015 u/s 379/411/120B IPC and 2/33/42/52/64 of Indian Forest Act was registered at PS Kamla Market, Delhi

During interrogation, accused Sanjay Kumar Nirwan disclosed that he used to send sandal wood / khair to East Indian cities.

1.      1705 kg of red sandal wood / khair  

2.      4 cycle rickshaws (rehra)
