Vigilance Surveillance Team Detects Traffic Policemen Receiving Bribe
In tow special surveillance checks by
the Team of the Vigilance Branch last week, 1 Head Constable and 2 Constables
of the Traffic Police have been detected indulging in corrupt practices.
In the first incident
on 07.12.15, the Vigilance team checked the traffic staff at Minto Road Red
Light. It was found that HC Naresh Kumar and Const. Kuldeep were keeping the
documents of commercial vehicles and asking the drivers to come again after
dropping the passengers at New Delhi Railway Station. When the drivers returned
to collect their documents, HC Naresh Kumar and Const. Kuldeep demanded money to
return the documents and received Rs. 100/- from two drivers without issuing a
challan.
In the second incident
on 10.12.15, ACP/Vigilance checked the traffic staff at Mandi House round about
and found that Ct. Bhup Singh collected illegal entry money Rs. 300/- from Eeco
Van driver without issuing any receipt.
The Vigilance Branch
has recommended departmental action against all the three traffic policemen.
The concept of sending
special surveillance checks has been introduced by the Delhi Police Vigilance
Branch this year as an innovative measure to combat corruption. The Special
Surveillance Teams, equipped with video surveillance gadgets, keep an eye on
any act of corruption by Delhi Police personnel, and conduct surprise checks
unobtrusively at various inter-sections in the city from time to time, with
particular focus on the visible wings of Delhi Police such as Traffic, PCR
Vans, Beat Officers etc. On detecting any public dealing of suspicious nature
involving the policemen on field duty, the Vigilance Branch officials confront
the concerned public person and the policemen with the irregularities detected.
This year so far, 350
such checks have been conducted by the Special Surveillance Teams and on the
basis of such checks 1 case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been
registered against one Traffic Constable and departmental action has been taken
against 23 other police personnel- 20 from Traffic and 3 from PCR.
