On sustained interrogation, Dinesh Mehta disclosed that
he used to drive TSR since he was very young. Earlier, he used to live with his
family in Sultanpuri and later shifted to Mohan Garden, Uttam Nagar. He was not
having good financial condition and he used to take the TSRs on rent. While
driving TSRs in different parts of Delhi, he came to know that while checking,
hardly ever the engine and chassis numbers are matched with the registration
documents. He also became very familiar with the TSR mechanism and was aware
that it is very easy to start a TSR without having its ignition keys. He
noticed some TSRs bearing same registration numbers running in unauthorised
colonies like Sangam Vihar, and near Uttam Nagar. To evade police checking,
these TSRs were being run within narrow roads of congested colonies instead of
main roads. He approached the driver of one of such TSR who told him that many
of such TSRs were stolen ones from Delhi and UP and many of these bear
registration numbers of TSRs which had already been declared unfit by the
transport authority and permit had been suspended. The gang were using photocopies
of the unfit declared TSRs.
After stealing these TSRs, he gave them on a monthly
rental of Rs. 6000/-. He provided photocopy of the stolen registration
documents and told the person to evade main roads to skip police checking.
Concerned
police stations have been informed in this regards. Further investigation is in progress.
